Salu is an Estonian-Danish quartet, in the center of it are traditional folk texts from Kambja Parish in South Estonia, where the band’s creator, Elina Kasesalu (violin, voice) comes from.
Stemming from the texts, sayings, spells and lyrics, is built a strong foundation of bass (Mikkel Schmidt), drums (Jeppe Ellegaard) and guitar (Thomas Brunbjerg), contrasted with soft vocals and a warm violin sound.
Rooting in tradition, they draw a line to the past, while the music unfolds as a curious dialogue between tradition and experimentation, creating a colorful and attention-grabbing soundscape.
These songs are a discovery of Elina’s identity, inspired and shaped by the many choices in life and a world that is constantly shifting, yet grounded in the familiarity and certainty of where she comes from. The name Salu comes from her roots – her father’s surname, and also the name of her childhood home, connected to her mother’s family in Kambja Parish.
Salu has released their first EP “Uni” in 2025.
